After unveiling the all-new Swift last month, Suzuki has now unleashed the Swift Racer RS. The latter, as you may have guessed, is a racier iteration of the new Swift which has been unveiled at the ongoing Tokyo Auto Salon.

The Swift Racer RS grabs attention with its loud blue and neon green livery inspired by Team Suzuki Ecstar which competes in MotoGP.

The highlights on this car include 17-inch alloy wheels, lightened interior with 4-point harness, a roll bar and bucket seats.

The Racer RS is based on the new Swift which looks sleeker and more premium. The racer retains the standard car’s Audi-liketrapezoidal grille and a new bumper design.

The Racer RS also retains that one element that made the previous-gen model so unique – the cockpit-like glasshouse.

Mechanically, the Racer RS is based on the standard Swift RS which can be had with either a 1.2-litre, four-cylinder engine or a 1-litre turbocharged three-cylinder unit.

The new Swift range is based on Suzuki’s new Hearttect platform which has allowed for noticeable weight savings and improved rigidity.Besides the Swift Racer RS, Suzuki is also showcasing a fully decked up version of the Ignis at the Tokyo Auto Salon. The Ignis has been recently launched in India as an urban crossover.

The India-bound Swift, meanwhile, will be closer to the Euro-spec model which will make its public debut at the Geneva Motor Show later in the year.

In Japan, the new Swift is available in up to six variants – XL, XG, RSt, Hybrid RS, RS and Hybrid ML. We expect Maruti Suzuki to bring this new, much improved model to India by the second half of 2017.
