India bound Jeep Compass SUV

Jeep showed the Compass at the Geneva Show and as you know, it is an important model for our market. The Compass will be coming to India later this year (August) and would be aggressively priced since it would be made at the Ranjangaon plant with high localisation enabling Jeep to price it cheaper than direct rivals. Of course exact price and details of the India spec features are not out yet but expect it to be well equipped.

Jeep would also launch the Compass in Europe this summer. For Europe there would be the 4 trims on offer- Sport, Longitude, Limited, Trailhawk. For India we will get the same minus the Trailhawk trim.

For the European market there is also an Opening Edition. The Gloss Black painted roof looks great and the design is baby Grand Cherokee which means it is dripping with Jeep DNA and something which makes it stand out from the crowd.

The design is less crossover and more SUV which is an asset. The interiors are also rugged and have good quality. The feature list for India is not out but this euro spec model came across as generously equipped. There is either a 5.0-, 7.0- or 8.4-inch touchscreen display plus a 3.5- or 7-inch LED driver information display. Space is decent.

In Europe, the Compass range is powered by one petrol and two diesel engines. There is a 1.4-liter MultiAir2 Turbo engine with either a 9-speed auto or a 6-speed manual. The diesel meanwhile has 1.6-liter MultiJet II and a 2.0 MultiJet II with automatic and manual while 4x4 and 4x2 are available in both petrol and diesel. There is also a 2.4-liter petrol. For India we can expect a 2.0 diesel and 1.4 petrol being offered. There are two 4x4 systems- the Jeep Active Drive and the Jeep Active Drive Low with both having Jeep Selec-Terrain system, providing up to five modes. Let us hope for India we will get 4x4 which is crucial for its appeal. Overall the Compass looks impressive and we cannot wait to see it in India, wait for this one!
