New Upcoming Hybrid Cars for 2017

Manufacturers in India are definitely becoming more eco-minded with each passing year. With government entities such as the National Green Tribunal (NGT) cracking down on pollution and other adverse effects, car makers are looking to increase their green credentials. The following is a list of hybrid cars that are set to arrive in India in 2017.

Volkswagen Passat GTE

The VW Passat has been absent from the Indian car market for a few years now but, it is set to return to our country next year in its hybrid avatar. The Passat GTE was showcased to the Indian public at the 2016 Indian Auto Expo and it will come with a 1.4 litre, 4 cylinder, turbocharged petrol engine paired with an electric motor to produce a combined system power output of 215 bhp and 400Nm of torque. Despite the rather high power figure, this car also boasts of a range of 1000 km between fuel top-ups.

Nissan X-Trail

The Nissan X-Trail is another vehicle that is set to return to our car market after a hiatus of a few years. A 2.0 litre, 4 cylinder petrol engine that works in conjunction with an electric motor provides a total power figure of 183 bhp and yet return 20 kpl. The vehicle also has become bigger and more spacious; and it features more premium interiors as well.

Hyundai Ioniq

Hyundai has been aggressively working to ensure that they are not left behind the green race. The latest from the South Korean car maker is that they will release a whole series of environmentally friendly cars under the Ioniq moniker. The Ioniq series will include a purely electric car, a hybrid petrol-electric car and even a plug-in hybrid vehicle.

Hyundai Sonata Hybrid

The second largest vehicle manufacturer in India, Hyundai, has cars in pretty much every segment that the vast majority of Indian car buyers play around in. However, one type of car that was conspicuous by its absence for Hyundai was a hybrid. All that might change in 2017 since Hyundai has plans of bringing in the 192 bhp petrol-electric hybrid Sonata to India to compete with cars such as the Toyota Camry Hybrid, the Honda Accord Hybrid and the soon-to-be-launched Volkswagen Passat GTE.

Toyota Prius

No list that comprises of hybrid vehicles is complete without mentioning what is quite possibly the most popular and well known hybrid car in all of automotive history, the Toyota Prius. The new version of this car has a 1.8 litre petrol engine and an electric motor that produce a combined power output of 160 bhp. Although it did not find many buyers when it first came to India, the situation should be different now, especially with the Camry Hybrid finding more buyers than its petrol variant.
